The Old Nottinghamians Phoenix XI rose from the ashes in a T20 match against our friends Fraser Brown Solicitors on Thursday 31st May at Adbolton. For those unfamiliar with the Old Nottinghamians' Society Sports & Social Club ground, the photos below should give you a good idea of the Society's crown jewels. In alphabetical order (not batting order) the following were some of the ONs enjoying themselves on a very sunny evening:
Giles Bee demonstrated all the skills of a player in the Derbyshire County Cricket League
Julian Bower would have batted and bowled as if it were yesterday (Wednesday)
Steve Clarke batted and bowled as if it were yesterday
Lyndon Close recalled his playing days with ONCC
John Coates, chair of the Ground Management Committee, served behind the bar and did the washing up
Robin Fisher enjoyed the beer, curry and sport
Fraser Brown Solicitors very generously provided the beer, curry and sporting opposition
Harry Hammond, quiz champion with the ONs, demonstrated his all-round ability
Jonathan Hammond organised the whole event superbly
Michael Hammond was a proud father and grandfather...
...Nicolas Hammond was visiting from Atlanta, Georgia with his family
Iain Hardiker enjoyed the curry, beer and sport
Michael Hemphrey remembered his playing days with ONCC
Joe Jackson warmed up for his appearance later this summer at Valley Road
Simon Jackson enjoyed a family picnic with wife Jane, daughter Jo, new son-in-law Jon & pets
Jim King relived his playing days with ONCC
Charlie Lea opened the batting, and the bowling, and would have taken any penalties
Imogen Lea kindly scored
Dr Jane Lea (née Turrill) also very kindly scored
Jeremy Lea talked about Arsenal, Forest, Notts County, Derby County & Arsenal
Andy Murdy took the award for the most injuries sustained to different parts of the body
Dave Nettleton enjoyed the sport, beer & curry
Tony Palfreman, who had provided the inspiration for the whole occasion, bowled the first ball for the ONs' Phoenix XI
Phil Renshaw served behind the bar, giving plenty out, and also umpired, giving none out
John Turton recalled his playing days with ONCC
Phil Turton took the photos, operated the scoreboard (until a young American took over) and gave the speech of thanks
Dave Vickerstaff, groundskeeper, keeps an outstanding ground for all ONs to enjoy
Richard Wood put his name down for the next game.
