Thursday 15th September Lunch

The President, Robert Wood (ON 1971-81), greeted 40 guests at the 136th Society Lunch at Beeston Fields Golf Club on Thursday 15th September.

In particular, the President welcomed Lisa Gritti, Deputy Head (Individuals) at the School; Kamala Newton, Samantha Ellis and Deborah Penney from the Development Office; the Head Girl and Head Boy.

ONs were meeting during the period of National Mourning. The President led a minute's silence in memory of HM Queen Elizabeth II. As is our custom, the Society also remembered those ONs who had died recently. Nigel Dunn (ON 1949-60), the Society Lunch organiser, said grace.

Beeston Fields served chicken, ham and leek pie, new potatoes and seasonal vegetables; chocolate roulade, rum and raisin ice cream rolled in a peanut brittle.

After the meal, the President thanked the Golf Club staff and everyone for attending. He presented the Head Girl and Head Boy with Society polo shirts. The President handed to the Deputy Head the Society minute books dating from 1902 and 1949 for safekeeping in the School archive.

The President announced that the Society AGM would be at Adbolton on Thursday 17th November at 7.30pm. The 137th Lunch would be on Thursday 19th January 2023. Dates for the Oxford Dinner, Annual Dinner and other events would be advertised in due course.

The Deputy Head provided news from the School. The recent exam results had been excellent. The School was educating 1,177 students, the current maximum. Henry Nwume (ON 1995) had been the guest speaker at Speech Day. The Deputy Head invited ONs to the Cambridge and London Dinners in November and the Carol Service in December.
