Jonathan Hammond (1975-85) writes about his Pub Names Quiz in aid of Childline...
It’s that time of the year again already! With the support of many of you, our 2025 Quiz raised £5,183 for the Nottinghamshire Branch of Childline. Well done and thank you.
Although the charity is a national organisation, each branch operates on a regional basis The counselling centre in Nottingham provides a unique and confidential service to vulnerable callers in East Midlands and East Anglia.
To date, Childline has helped nearly two million children, saved children’s lives, brought abusers to justice and found refuge for children in danger on the streets. However, the charity has never had the resources to answer every call. Approximately 4,500 children a day call for help, but due to a lack of funds it is only possible to answer around 2,500 of these.
And now, here is your copy to download of the Pub Names Quiz 2026. As with our previous teasers, all the answers are on the last page... but not in the correct order. You just need to work out how the clues give you the answer of a British pub name.
If you require a copy by post, either give me a call on (01949) 87 86 85 or e-mail your name and address to quiz@hammondpropertyservices.com.
Please do forward a copy to anyone else you think may enjoy the challenge.
The Quiz is set to last through the winter months. Many entries last year were completed on holidays over October Half Term, Christmas and the New Year. If you wish, please send a photo from wherever you are puzzling to quiz@hammondpropertyservices.com and we will add it to our social media.
To give you a helping hand:
Roman numerals: 1 = I, 5 = V, 10 = X, 50 = L, 100 = C, 500 = D, 1000 = M.
Try and find a list of chemical symbols and abbreviations for countries and US states.
Thank you for helping Childline. You can now make your entry donation go a little further by completing the Gift Aid form on Page 5.
Best of luck - I hope the Pub Names Quiz keeps you busy and entertained!
